After attending the conference on Friday, we knew Saturday was going to have a completely different feel. We’d be spending the day with our families and the Disney Junior crew. Both of my girls were over the moon when they found out Sofia was going to be there. Little did I know, I’d be just as floored with what we were about to experience.
Our families split off from us to meet the characters, while we attended another session. Before we met up with our families, attendees spent the morning at breakfast with Genevieve Goings, host of Disney Junior’s Choo Choo Soul. She was our host that morning where we learned all about the new Disney Junior “Give A Book, Get A Book” program. Between now and the end of September, participate in in the program by entering special codes at “Give A Book, Get A Book.” Once you enter the code, you’ll get a FREE Disney Junior eBook, and a family in need will receive a FREE physical book. The codes can be found on specially marked Disney Junior books and products. They will also be found on bookmarks distributed at participating libraries and Disney events.
Just when I thought things couldn’t get better, Lavar Burton, of Reading Rainbow walked out on stage. He was inspirational, genuine, and made me want to be a better parent. Lavar stressed the importance of building literacy and of storytelling in the digital age we are living in. We have so many great online tools, and we need to use them more often. There are no excuses why we shouldn’t be reading to children. Lavar said, “We have been sharing stories with each other since before the time of fire.”
When we reconnected with our families, the crowd went wild when David Arquette, Tim Gunn, and Ariel Winter came out on stage. Seeing a book in their hands, I had to hold back tears. It’s not every day that Disney Junior actors read a story to my children. Emma kept looking around trying to find Sofia and Baileywick, not understanding that the voices for the animated characters on screen are real people.
We had several other surprises in store for us that morning. We had a sneak peak of Maleficent, an appearance by Elle Fanning, and a special performance by Sabrina Carpenter. Our morning ended with a pre-release screening of Disneynature’s “Bears” movie. Then our families got to spend a fun day in the park together before we met up with the other families for
Keeping with the Disney Junior theme, we had a family dinner in Mickey’s Toontown, sponsored by GoGo squeeZ. Here, we got to enjoy another great dinner with old and new friends.
And? It was the very first time Addie finally embraced her first favorite Disney Character, Minnie Mouse!
I was invited to attend the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration conference. I was provided compensation or product for review. All opinions are my own. Thank you to Josh Hallett for taking photos throughout the event.
