Skin cancer and how we’re fighting it

About a year ago my mother had a small spot on her lip. We really didn’t think anything of it and she had been to the doctor several times. It wasn’t until I noticed the spot growing rapidly that I forced her to see a dermatologist. He was pretty confident it was Basal Cell Carcinoma but would confirm with a biopsy. Regardless of what it was, it would need to be removed.

On Christmas eve, her doctor called with the results of her biopsy. It wasn’t BCC after all but Squamous Cell Carcinoma. Although non-melonma, it’s still a dangerous cancer because it can spread to the tissues, bones, and lymph nodes. SCC tends to be an aggressive cancer. Once diagnosed, it’s important to get it taken care of quickly. Since her diagnosis, she’s had two surgeries and is now in the prevention phase of skin cancer.  continued

The True Magic of Disneyland

The true magic of Disneyland! Tales from our family.

Using anything “Disney” and “magic” in the same sentence can sometimes feel cliché to me, especially when I’ve written so much about Disneyland over the past few years. Regardless, I’d like to go back and recount two stories I’ve shared verbally with friends many times, where our family actually witnessed some of that magic Walt intended for visitors to his park. continued

How to start a book club

Remember my post a couple weeks ago about finding your tribe? Well, I talked a lot about how making new friends is kinda like dating and you really need to find commonality within a group in order to fit in. After thinking about it a bit, one thing that hit me is my love of reading. I was sure I would find other like minds and start a book club.

The runDisney Phenomenon and Runners To Watch

Let’s be perfectly clear here… I am not in shape. I don’t exercise regularly even though I want to with all my being. I let every excuse in the book prevent me from going to the gym or even around the block to walk the dog. I think you could almost say I’m lazy. Then registration opens for the next runDisney race. What is the runDisney phenomenon you say? It’s Disney’s way of getting you off the couch! continued

Finding my tribe

We moved to Southern California going on two years ago now. The move was a really good decision and the only regret was leaving behind my tribe of real life friends in San Francisco. Don’t get me wrong, I have a great online community that keeps me going and I still talk with my old friends left behind. But it’s the day-to-day interactions that are hugely important and needed too. continued

2016: Where do we go from here?

Happy New Year! Yep, it’s January 18th and I’ve been silent for a very long time around here. Mainly because I haven’t been sure about what I want to do with this space. For many of us, 2016 was a year full of high’s and low’s. From the election, health issues, changing ventures, and moving again… I just don’t know where to begin. So I won’t. I would prefer to sweep it all under the rug and focus on what’s to come. Goodbye 2016… at times, you were not the best. Which brings me to 2017… continued

Disney Social Media Moms “On the Road!”

Disney Social Media Moms has done it again. They’ve announced the dates for their annual conference, one I’m sure a lot of us wouldn’t want to miss! But did you know the Disney Social Media Moms celebration has an On the Road conference too?

Last month, I had the pleasure of attending Disney Social Media Moms, On the Road event at Disneyland. For those of you unfamiliar with the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration, it’s an invitation-only conference that provides social media content, Disney updates, and empowering speakers.

When the sky turns gray

screen-shot-2016-09-10-at-2-43-11-pm

I’ve been in a bit of a funk. It’s the kind of funk that I can probably get out of quickly if I did something about it. But right now, I’m feeling very melancholy. It didn’t dawn on me why I was feeling this way until I looked at the date. September 10th. Now I know why the skies have turned gray. But I won’t let myself go there because that triggers a whole other mess. continued

What teachers really want for back to school supplies

What teachers really want, but won't ask for! #teachers #school

It’s that time of year again when our kids head back to school. Parents settle into a normal routine, and forget to pack lunches for the first day. Oh wait, is that just me? One of the things I stress out about is meeting our new teachers. It can be challenging to get to know a teacher in the few minutes or seconds you might see them each day, if you even get to see them each day.

What do teachers really want on their back-to-school shopping list.

As a parent, I want to know what will help our teacher have the best school year. I don’t want them worrying about spending their own money on things that we can help provide. But what do you get for them? I’ll happily bring in Kleenex and Clorox Wipes. But what do they really need? continued
